How we handle data

Last updated: 12 May 2026

The short version

Burbfinderis a property-research site. We don't need to know who you are to show you suburb data. We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, advertising cookies, or any third-party tracker. We don't sell or share personal information because we don't collect any.

What we do collect

  • Aggregate page views — we use a self-hosted, cookieless analytics tool (Plausible Community Edition) to count which pages get visited. It records the page URL, country (derived from IP, then discarded), browser type, and referring site. It does not set cookies, does not fingerprint, and does not store any identifier that could link two visits together. Data lives on our own server in Australia.
  • Server logs — our web server records request URLs and timestamps for diagnostic purposes. IP addresses in these logs are not used for tracking and are rotated out within 14 days.
  • Search Console — we use Google Search Console to see which Google queries lead people to the site. This data is aggregated by Google before we see it; we never receive individual user data.

What we don't do

  • No advertising or marketing trackers.
  • No third-party JavaScript beyond fonts (Google Fonts) and map tiles (OpenStreetMap / CartoDB / Esri).
  • No cookies set by Burbfinder. The browser may receive cookies from embedded fonts or map tile providers; we don't read or share them.
  • No accounts, no email collection, no newsletter.
  • No sale or sharing of any data with third parties.

About the property data

All suburb, hazard, zoning, school, and price data on this site comes from official Australian sources (ABS, state governments, ATO, ACARA, ARPANSA, Geoscience Australia) — see the Coverage page for the full registry of feeds. The data describes places, not people. Nothing on this site identifies, infers, or stores information about individual residents, property owners, or visitors.

Children

The site doesn't collect personal information from anyone, including children under 16. We mention this because the Australian Privacy Principles encourage explicit statements where minors may visit.

Changes to this policy

If we add any new data collection (for example, an accounts feature or newsletter), we'll update this page and date the change at the top. We won't apply new collection retroactively to past visits.
